Sydney Opens Its Doors For Another Sydney Open

Every two years Sydney Living Museums open a number of buildings across Sydney to the public for an event called Sydney Open. Many of these give you the opportunity to get to areas not normally open to the public. It’s a great day for architecture, interior, design and photography enthusiasts and attracts hundreds of people.

City of art at the 19th Biennale of Sydney

Sydney goes Vivid for winter

Vivid Sydney, a festival of light, music and ideas, started in 2009 and has become the city’s largest winter festival. Originally it centred around Circular Quay, Customs House, The Rocks and the Sydney Opera House in particular. The event has grown each year and now includes Darling Harbour, Sydney Harbour Bridge and this year for the first time, Martin Place.

The Barber Shop Time Forgot

I was fortunate to stumble into a little time capsule in Sydney’s Surry Hills the other day, Chebal’s Barber Shop. Inside I found an interior which had not changed for decades, bits and pieces had been added here and there, light fittings no longer worked, there was several types of flooring, photos took up most of the wall space, about as far removed from a modern stylists as you can get.

Bingham Cup Waratah Dunking at Fair Day

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2014 season got underway again this year with Fair Day at Victoria Park. I was asked by the organisers of the 2014 Bingham Cup (the Gay Rugby World Cup) to pop along and capture some images from the day, including a couple of NSW Waratahs players Jono Lance and Nick Phipps getting their tops off and dunked to raise money for charity.
