I’m a bit of a cynic when it comes to unsolicited messages through Flickr asking to use images. Nowadays Flickr seems to be a very cheap, if not free, way for companies and ad agencies to get images. They exploit amateur photographers who are keen to get some exposure for their images.
I’ve had messages in the past most of which I’ve declined. However a few days ago I received a message from an ad agency in Italy who maintain the San Pellegrino/Acqua Panna website. They asked to use a couple of images from the Allsorts series to accompany an article about liquorice.
Being a high-end and well known brand this time I accepted the offer, as usual no payment at all but at least the images are fully credited and there’s a link back to my Flickr account. One day I might start making some money from my images, but on this occasion a bit of exposure on a high-end brands website is good enough for me.
